Bob Mortimer Visits HBHS
On Wednesday, November 30, 2016 Bob Mortimer, a Christian evangelist and motivational speaker who presents at various locations including churches, schools, prisons as well as military bases was invited to Henderson Bay High School for an assembly to open up about his experiences. Bob is originally from a farm town known as North Lima, Ohio. He didn’t move to Washington State until he was sixteen after his father’s death in Hoquiam and now resides in the wonderful city of Gig Harbor where he became a minister. Mortimer discussed his siblings and the roles that they played in his life, especially his elder brother Tom who is his favorite sibling. Tom centered Bob’s stories, experiences, journeys and travels and molded them into his presentation.
The overall message of his presentation was the idea of change and a spark of hope. If you keep walking down the road you are going down, will that lead you anywhere in life? Mortimer and his wife have three children that biked across the country from Gig Harbor, Washington, to New York City, New York, during his son, Grant’s sixteenth birthday. The trip with his family cross country inspired Mortimer to write a novel titled Hope and Courage Across America. After becoming a triple amputee, Bob continues to live his life despite having to relearn simple tasks we do with ease everyday: eating, clothing ourselves and bathing. Bob lost both of his legs and left arm in an accident with his brother Tom after attending a party. Speaking across the country is his full time career. He mentioned speaking at Brooklyn, New York at the beginning of this month and concluded November back home in Gig Harbor, Washington, sharing his life with us at our high school. Thanks, Bob. |
