Mac Mini UpgradeNew vs ClassicHenderson Bay High School computer lab received a much needed partial upgrade. Thirteen new mac minis arrived three weeks ago. The previous iMacs we had here had abysmal specs with OS X El Capitan, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 5GB of DDR3 SDRAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400, 20-inch built in display with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, and a 250GB hard drives. The bottom line is they were really slow and some were continually crashing….losing student work.
The new computers have better specs which include macOS Sierra, 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB of DDR3 SDRAM, Intel HD Graphics 5000, Dell S2216H 21.5-inch Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and a 500GB HDD. The time it takes to do things like logging in and opening up photoshop has been shortened. The old computers took about ten seconds longer to log in/boot up and it took them about twenty seconds to open photoshop. Some of the older computers were super slow….taking up to four minutes to get set to do class work. Overall the new computers have been getting lots of praise from the students who use them. Alex says the older computers “were really slow. The new ones are much faster.” He had further assessments we chose not to print. ~Gavin |
