Forging a Knife

Blade Smithing

Many of our seniors are doing culminating projects this semester. One of them is Steven. He is doing his senior project on blade smithing. His project is learning how to make his own knife.  His mentor is Jeff

Before starting up the forge, he needs to know all of the correct terms including: Tang, quenching, hidden tang, partial tang, recesso, and more. He also needs to know different types of metals including steels and damascus steel. Also, the knife's anatomy is super important to know.

Throughout his project, he explains the process of creating a knife and what needs to be done to accomplish the task. He also tells us that there are only certain knives that are legal to own. In his presentation, he shows us the range of knives  you can buy that are both inexpensive and legal.     ~Abby
