Lisa's Laboratory

Science with Lisa
Always the Adventure
.
I had a great time taking pictures and videos of Lisa’s physics class shooting rockets and testing them. I even got to help with their test and pump it up but once it got up to 60+ PSI man was it hard, definitely was worth it though. Next year I look forward in either being in that class or take more videos and pictures of their future projects.              ~ACE

What's Happening in
Biology COE?

For this semester, I am enrolled in Lisa’s third period class which is called “Biology Collection of Evidence.” The class is designed and structured for students that have not met the Washington state graduation requirement for science, meaning the Biology End of Course state test. There are six tests that have to be submitted to the state.

This Monday, Lisa assigned the class an assignment- to write down two organisms and then went around asking students which organism they preferred. My choice of interest was the bottlenose dolphin because in the past, I did a report and drawing of a bottlenose dolphin for a school assignment over eight years ago.

Questions:

  1. In what kind of environment will you find your organism?
  2. What are some other species in that environment?
  3. How will climate change affect that environment?
  4. How will climate change affect the other organisms in your food web?
  5. How will these changes affect your organism?
  6. What kinds of changes will your organism need to make if it will survive in its current ecosystem?

Everyone in the class chose an organism and answered each of these six questions in addition to sketching out a basic food web for the specific organism. Today (Tuesday) Lisa reiterated the assignment and told our class that from Monday’s assignment we would individually create a powerpoint including everything detailed in our notes including the food web. The presentations will be presented on Thursday in class third period.          ~Bre
