Welcome new student to Henderson Bay! It is great to hear that you are enlisting to an engaging school such as Henderson Bay. At Henderson Bay, we expect everyone to do their best each day whether it’s during school work or otherwise. If you are coming from Gig Harbor High School or one of the other larger schools, you will notice a lot of differences during your first day here. Some examples of such differences include smaller classes consisting of as low as 8 students and teachers being more involved with students here compared to other schools.
Some information that might be useful to you on your first day is knowing that it’s ok to ask questions when you are confused about something. When I came to Henderson Bay as a new student, I was extremely shy and didn’t want to speak to anyone I didn’t know. Whenever I worked on a daily assignment in class, I would occasionally get confused on a certain topic or question. Instead of asking for help or an explanation about the topic, I would stare at the assignment trying to figure it out on my own. This made my grade drop quite frequently and cause myself to become stressed. My reasoning for not asking questions was not wanting to disrupt everyone else who was working or bothering the teacher with what they were currently doing. It wasn’t until I learned that teachers are happy to help answer questions that my grade began to increase. With the previous information in mind, you might be wondering what else to expect from Henderson Bay High School. There are many great things to expect from Henderson Bay such as kind teachers, respectful students and the expectation from others to do your best each day. You will also expect frequent daily assignments, engaging class activities and the lack of homework compared to other schools. Now that you have enrolled to Henderson Bay, I hope the information I have provided with be at least somewhat helpful to you on your first day and so on. My name is Celina and I am a 17 year old senior. I have not attended any other high schools and have been at Henderson Bay since my freshman year. Attending Henderson Bay has helped expand my interest in dancing and photography as well as weight lifting. My future plan is to study to become a stage dancer and eventually become a dance photographer. ~Celina

Dreams
I’ve always been a dreamer. Had high hopes And ambitions For myself. When they shattered To pieces, to shreds I thought I’d never complete The goal set for myself. Starvation, Truancy, Hospital bed After damn hospital bed. During sophomore year I was a worthless piece of trash That did not deserve to live. I had no purpose, no meaning And did not want to live Past seventeen. I wanted to graduate On time so bad But feared I couldn’t And just gave up on living. The thought To attend what used To be known as an Alternative high school Frightened me. What would the kids be like? Would I be “one of them?” A drug addict? A teenage mother? A high school dropout… Come September… Everyone was so Accepting, Kind. Welcoming. Friendly. Down to earth. Encouraging And motivational. None of the rumors spread At my home high school Were true. I could be myself Without being judged And felt like I fit in Where I belonged. The nine-month journey Of senior year Seemed to never end. September to June Seemed like an entire life time. To be honest, It passed in the blink of an eye. When I thought I wouldn’t pass The standardized tests I did. They picked me up when I fell And pushed me to keep going And never give up. Now, I am a community college student And realize I have so much to live for And will do everything it takes to Fulfill my dream of becoming A high school English teacher. Thank you to the Henderson Bay High School staff for assisting me through the journey of my senior year of high school to graduate on time. Each and every one of you have made an impact on my life in your own way and I will forever be grateful to each and every one of you. Sorry I haven’t visited since graduation! I want to some day! Much Love, Bre 😊 Bre is starting a blog. You can view her blog by going to: https://breanablogs.weebly.com/ Something new happens every year and some things end up changing. As everyone knows already we have switched gears and we are now in 2018!....A new year and new opportunities for everyone. 2017 may have been bad for most and good for some, but now that is in the past and we are moving into a new year where everything changes for everyone. The new year does bring something new to the table for each and everyone of us, the opportunity to change who we are or how we live our lives. But in order to have a successful change you cannot just wish it upon a star that you want it all to change. For instance, if you want to lose weight this year and become fit, you need to be willing to attempt to put time into your schedule so you can do that, and be willing to get up everyday to be willing to change your life around.
Resolutions aren’t just wishes, they may be wishes but these are wishes that you yourself have to accomplish. Do what you can to make your dreams possible, because new year’s resolutions aren't successful if you don't put a little backbone into them. We left one year behind and are in the next one, and just to make this interesting I do have a resolution and I think i will share it, I myself want to becoming better with writing. Writing stories, articles etc. Writing is a way to be sent to a different world, and a way to stay informative. We all have our dreams in life and the best way we can accomplish them is taking it by the hand and pursuing it, opening time to do what you love. Doing what you love and what makes you happy is the best thing…. good medicine for getting better with some laughter. But for this year at Henderson Bay High School (HBHS), we will still be having the fun we normally have as well as New Field Trips, volunteering opportunities for everyone and getting all the seniors for getting ready to graduate. We love our school and we want to make 2018 amazing for everyone here. ~Jai |
